Announcing the DVC Essay Contest

A big thank you to everyone who subscribed to my email list and received 2,000 DVC in honor of Devcoin’s second anniversary!

To further celebrate Devcoin’s birthday, I’m holding a simple essay contest.  Tell your story of how you first got involved with acquiring and using cryptocoins.  How did you first find out they existed?  What made you want to learn more?  How did you acquire your first ones?  How has getting involved with them changed things in your life?  You don’t have to answer all those questions; they’re to help get your creative juices flowing so you can turn your experience into a great story.

Your essay should be between 500 and 1500 words long, in English, well written or at least using proper spelling and grammar, original (do not copy someone else’s work!), true (as in this really happened) and fun to read.  If you have published your story elsewhere, that is fine; please include a link to every other place it has been published and if you are the winner, be prepared to have me verify that it is indeed your work.

The winner will be awarded a prize of 10,000 DVC, his or her essay will be published on http://creativecurrencies.cu.cc as a blog post and can include one promotional link (please no links to “adult” or gambling sites).  I will determine the winner based on which story I like best.

Any runner ups I choose to publish will be awarded 1,000 DVC and also allowed one promotional link.  I won’t know for sure how many runner ups there will be until after the contest window has closed.

To enter the contest, you must first be a subscriber to my mailing list.  You can opt-in by completing the subscription form in the top right corner of this website and by following the instructions in the confirmation email.  You must complete both steps to be fully opted in–if for some reason you do not receive the confirmation message within 12 hours and it’s not in your spam folder try filling out the form again.

Once you are a subscriber, you may reply to any of the email messages you receive.  Include your essay in the email, put DVC essay contest (that exact phrase) in the subject line, clearly identify the promotional link you wish to use should your essay be published, and hit send when you are ready.  You must use the same email address you used to subscribe so I can verify that you are a subscriber.  Limit one entry per subscriber.  Your essay must be appropriate for general audiences.  Essays must be entered by email in the way I described.  I won’t consider essays sent via comments or Forum PMs or any other way.  Please follow the directions and your essay will be considered :-)

All entries must be received by 11:59 pm Eastern Standard Time on Sunday, August 18, 2013.

I reserve the right to cancel this contest at any time.  The only reason I can think of for canceling is if I don’t receive anything that I can publish.

I will try to send a brief confirmation email that I received your essay.  If you don’t get one within three days of having sent it, feel free to send me one email asking if I received it (include the title and helpful identifying information).

Winners and if applicable runner ups will be selected, announced on this site and awarded their prizes no later than August 31, 2013.

Happy writing.  I look forward to reading your stories!

UPDATE:  I received no entries so there is no winner and the contest is canceled.  I am considering holding it again with a bigger grand prize.  Stay tuned for announcements.
